Dear Students,
This week you all received a timely warning regarding an incident that took place on campus over the weekend. We are, like many of you, deeply concerned that violence of this nature is happening and that violence in any form continues to occur in our community. Incidents like this are absolutely not aligned with our principles of community, and they’re also not representative of this community, which we know to be a place where caring for one another is of the utmost importance.
We know that hearing about this type of conduct can be impactful and upsetting. We want you to know that support services on campus are available to you if you’re feeling distressed by this news.

CARE Advocates are ready and available to talk with you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by phone at (805) 893-4613. More information is available on the CARE website. A call or meeting with CARE is a confidential space to share how you are doing, explore your rights and options, and be connected to additional resources that can best support you. Disclosing your experience to a CARE Advocate will not lead to a timely warning message or to anyone else knowing what you have shared. All conversations with CARE will follow your lead and support whatever exploration you want and need.
- Counseling and Psychological Services is also available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can walk in and request an appointment during business hours or call (805) 893-4411 any time, day or night. More information about accessing services, including after hours help, is available on the CAPS website.

In moments of such concerning events in our community, it is important that we continue to take care of our wellbeing and to care for our community around us. We encourage you all to reach out to your friends, neighbors, and classmates to check in on and support one another. If someone you care about is feeling particularly impacted, you can be of support by helping them connect with the resources above. We are all in this together to create a community of care, and one that actively works to stop further violence.
